Finger Painting – 3/52

I often go on and on about how sweet my kids are, and how much I adore them (which I do!), but let’s be honest… all these snow days have tested our patience for each other.  Can I get an amen from all the parents out there?  For us it went something like this: 1st Snow Day: Yay, I get extra snuggle time with my kiddos!!  2nd Snow Day: Okay, we’ll do fun crafts and maybe head outside once the snow calms down.  3rd Snow Day: Hmmm…. how can I possibly tire them out enough if we have to be inside all day?  4th Snow Day: It’s not even 9 am and they’re scaling the walls.  Help!!!

So, with another snow day likely upon us this week… I’m reaching out for your best snowy day indoor activity.  We’ve done finger painting, lots of art projects, even busted out the Play Doh (which I can’t stand!), made forts and obstacle courses, but my mom creativity is running a bit low and I need to reload my ammo lest C come home to find we’ve all gone insane from lack of stimulation.

In the meantime, here’s the little bubs having a blast making a mess.

Oh, and can I share a little new development in our house?  You see that sweet smiley boy above?  The one that I carried for 9 (okay only a little over 8, but let’s say 9 for the drama factor) long months?  The one that I got up with every hour and a half for a hundred years?  Well, I’ve officially been notified – on more than one occasion – that Daddy is his best friend now, not me anymore.  Stop growing up, little boy… and be nice to your mama!!

Jessica Higgins - Amen! I totally know where you are coming from. We bought the things over the weekend to make valentines. Figured this would keep them busy for oh I don’t know, about 20 minutes ;)

Kimberly - What about bowling? Use stuff like Gerber Puff containers or empty soda bottles as pins and a little ball to knock them over. Katie has really been into it lately… That and we have a big farm puzzle that’s 2 ft x 3 ft that we do together which takes up a decent amount of time, and brings big smiles with every piece she figures out by herself. :)

Crista - Valentines are definitely on the agenda this week! Bowling is a great idea Kimberly. Keep ‘em coming!!

Alana - Looks like he is having a blast painting & getting messy! Hope you find things to keep the kids busy during the upcoming snow days. Here are a few things I did with my old preschool class: Painting with shaving cream, Wrap yourselves in foil and pretend you’re robots or astronauts, Mini sensory tubs filled with snow, Jello, pudding, shaving cream, or overcooked spaghetti, Make your own instruments and start a band, Freeze some of their little toys in blocks of ice then dress up as superheroes and let the kids ”rescue” their toys in tubs of warm water, Play the “Parachute” game with a big sheet and some soft balls, shake it up and down and try to scurry under the sheet, Duck Duck Goose, and Musical Chairs.

Fran - Google some snow recipes. We made ice cream with some snow, vanilla extract and a can of sweetened condensed milk. Delicious!
