Babylegs

Just the other day I was introduced to the phenomenon that is Babylegs via my message board girls. For those of you that aren’t obsessed with everything baby (ie. you’re normal) let me explain… these “babylegs” are essentially leg warmers for munchkins. They’re worn in place of pants, and are supposed to make life much easier for diaper changes, and further down the road protect the baby’s legs when he starts crawling.

Seriously, aren’t they adorable though?

Like most things, at first, I thought they were kinda silly, but then the more and more I thought about them, I became obsessed! Last night I actually had a dream about Babylegs, and how fun it will be to get super creative and make all sorts of different ones. That’s totally pathetic, I realize. In any event; if you were so inclined, and you wanted to make your own Babylegs you could click here for a tutorial. Or, if you don’t feel like making them yourself, you can buy them from the company for $12/pair by clicking here.

You have to see this!

I stumbled upon another blogger’s site today, courtesy of my online friends that reside on a particular website inhabited by a bunch of other pregnant women (scary, I know!).

In any event… I was laughing so hard at my desk that someone asked me to share… I especially love the second listing of #10, and #1 on the list literally made me spit my water out on my keyboard.

I present you with the top 10 most ridiculous baby products: Click here

Elephantitis of the feet

Okay, maybe it’s just normal pregnancy swelling, but I have a bit of a tendency to exaggerate. What can I say, it grabs your attention a bit more, right?

The past week has been the same story, my feet and ankles start off the day looking normal and cute, but by the time I get home they’ve quadrupled in size and look like a cartoon version of the lower half of my legs. Actually, I should note here that my description of my feet starting off as “normal and cute” is an exaggeration as well… I was blessed with many things, but good feet really wasn’t one of them. In any event, they start off much better than they wind up!

Yesterday I wore a dress to work, and since it was cold out, I had tights on too. Heaven!!! By the end of the day my feet still looked fairly normal. When I got home I changed into sweats and decided to throw on a pair of C’s socks since I nearly amputated my own foot cutting off the circulation with women’s athletic socks the night before. Within an hour, I was back to the swollen, puffy, disgusting feet. Ahh the joys of the last few weeks of pregnancy.

L.A.’s Party

My mom was gracious enough to throw C and I a wonderful baby shower this weekend. The shower was held in a private room at the Macaroni Grill, and the food was delicious!! Our family and friends were beyond generous, and we were blown away by how thoughtful everyone was.

We were lucky enough to get almost all of the “big items” off our registry, and some very cute little outfits and bibs. C was thrilled when he opened some gifts and found a teeny Yankees tshirt for LA – he has decided that it will have to be part of the baby’s coming home outfit.
Here are some pics from the day.

7 weeks, really??

That’s it?? It seems like just yesterday we found out that we were having this baby and now it’s only a month and a half away! (Possibly sooner???)

Every so often it hits me that very shortly here we’re going to have this little teeny person that relies solely on C and I for everything, and a wave of sheer terror washes over me. You know the feeling… suddenly it seems like there’s a bucket of ice in the bottom of your belly and the feeling spreads from there, paralyzing you in your own fear.

I’m sure we’ll be fine, and I’m confident that we’ll get through it, but I think sometimes that I don’t realize the magnitude of changes to come. It’s more than just some cute, cuddly new baby… it’s a whole new life.

The sound of that simultaneously elates me and scares the bejeezus out of me.

So now I snore, too??

Women don’t snore, we may breathe heavily, or have slightly obstructed airways, but we absolutely do NOT snore!!

Imagine my surprise when I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and discovered I was alone in bed. In my slumberous state, I shuffled to the bathroom, and then proceeded very carefully to make my way blindly down the stairs in the dark. If you know me, you know when I say blind, I really mean it… it was pretty pathetic, in my undies and a wifebeater with a big ol‘ belly hanging out and my hands stretched in front of me lest I fall flat on my face.

C was snuggled up on the couch, seemingly sound asleep. This happens every so often, and I usually nudge him awake and off we go back to our bed. Last night though, when I went to reach for him he said “I’m awake, and I have been for the past 2 hours listening to you snore”. The audacity!! I do NOT snore. Hmph… if it’s gonna be like that, go ahead and sleep on the couch!

For what it’s worth, his reasoning was that he knows how uncomfortable I’ve been at night and didn’t want to wake me. I’d rather be awoken to roll over though than husband-less in bed! Especially since I don’t snore ;)

What a difference a year makes

A year ago today, my obsessions were: picking up my wedding dress from the seamstress, tying our programs with a thousand little black bows, the arrival of 300 calla lilies I had ordered for my do-it-yourself centerpieces, and generally running around like a bridal maniac.

In the past year, we’ve bought our first home and moved to a new town, found out we were going to be blessed with our first child and about 2 months after finding out about the baby, I got a promotion and changed offices within my company, starting a new job. It’s been quite the year for C and I.
Today my obsessions are: what this munchkin will look like, what memories we’ll make as a family, what it will take for me to be a good mom and generally preparing for the arrival of our little one.
Amazing now how looking back it really wasn’t all that important that the font matched on all of our wedding stationary, or that the flowers were arranged “just so”. When you realize that you’re about to bring a tiny new person into this world, your priorities tend to shift around. I’m much more interested in talking to my husband our future – our long term, rocking on the porch when we’re in our 70’s future – than I am about the little stuff. Those little details, the nitty gritty stuff, it doesn’t seem to hold the same weight as it once did.
Don’t get me wrong…. we had a beautiful, wonderful, magical wedding day that I wouldn’t change for the world. I’m just much happier now to be planning “forever”.
