Week 3

I took the day off from work today to stay home with L.A. because C got tickets to go to opening day at Yankee Stadium as a birthday gift from his awesome wife. The little guy and I ran a few errands, and then came home to just hang out together.

I figured since I had the time, I should try to capture our weekly self portrait. There were a few promises I made to L.A. the day he was born, some were vague – I’ll try to be a patient mother, I’ll support you no matter where life takes you… some very specific – I’ll never hit you, I’ll breastfeed you for at least six months. Nursing has been a huge part of our relationship for the first four months of his life, and I doubt at this point that we’ll be going beyond the original six months that I intended. So, being that our nursing time is winding down, I wanted to capture this moment so that I’ll remember the connection we shared when he was so small.

After the fact though, I was just laying there staring at our sweet child and marveling at how much he’s grown in the past 4 months, and I got this shot… can you tell that I adore this boy? So this is my submission for the week.

Happy Birthday Sweet Husband

Happy Birthday C!

As we stood in church today and I watched you hold our son, swaying slightly to the music of the choir, it hit me so deeply how lucky I am to have you.
To that tune, here are a small portion of the things I love about you.  I admire that you’re passionate about what you believe in, and that when you love you do it fiercely.  Your faith in God is an inspiration to me, and I hope to not only emulate it myself, but that our children will learn that faith from you.  More than anything your friendship means the world to me.  You have the biggest heart of anyone I know, and your compassion towards not only your family and friends, but those that you don’t know is unrivaled.  I appreciate more than I could ever say your support as I pursue my creative dreams, you’ve never once doubted me.  Certainly more than anything, I thank you for the gift that is our son.  This past year has been amazing, and hectic, and crazy and wonderful for us.  I  can’t imagine sharing my life with anyone else, and I sincerely hope that I can give back to you a portion of what you have brought to my life.
You are more than I could have ever asked for, and I am so grateful to call you my husband.

Back on my feet

Whew. Sorry about the hiatus there, but my house has been SICK. The baby still has the sniffles, I have strep throat, C is fighting a pretty bad cold and I think we might have collectively passed our germs on to my MIL. Ugh. It’s been pretty bad.

I’m feeling better though now. Expect blogging to ensue.
One of my photography challenges this week was simply the color yellow, being that spring has officially begun. In honor of how I’ve been feeling, and the fact that it’s still dark and gray in New England, here was my submission.

Note to self:

The following items do not mix.

One sick mom
nearly no sleep
Saturday morning
6 am
a husband who is headed off to work today (and thus can’t take over)
and one baby who wants to party.

I love my son dearly, but I can’t wait until he understands the concept of weekends.

It is hard however, to be annoyed when this is the little face that follows you as you pad around the kitchen even if it is 6:15 on Saturday morning.

Storytime

One of the photography boards I belong to has issued a 52 week challenge to get in front of the camera with your child. Too often we are the ones taking pictures, and it’s important for your child to have pictures with mommy too. I’ll try to remember to post my pictures weekly here, too.

Grandmas just have a way

It’s no secret that there is no love like that which a parent has for their child. What isn’t advertised as heartily is that this love is greatly rivaled by that which a grandparent has for their grandchild.

My MIL typically spends Tuesday nights at our house since she watches L.A. both Tuesday and Wednesday. This is really a nice opportunity for us all to spend time together, share a meal and generally just bond a little. Last night, she was a life saver.

L.A. has been fighting a cold for a little over a month now, and despite a trip to the Dr, every home remedy you can think of, and constant boog sucking, he still can’t shake it. Last night he was beyond miserable. He’d fall asleep only to wake up an hour later unable to breathe and crying. I think I wore a path in the hallway walking between our rooms last night. Finally around 4 am when I was in his room for what must have been the sixth time, my MIL quietly came up the stairs and took him from my exhausted arms saying “go ahead and get some sleep”.

I collapsed back into my bed and tried to get a few hours of shut eye before it was time to get up to feed him. L.A. is not much of a crier, so this recent development has left me a little at odds… amazingly though, my MIL seems to have all the tools to calm him. She sways in such a way that his whimpering subsides, and she quietly hums a song that makes L.A. forget all about the tears. I’m in awe of this ability.

When I woke back up in the wee hours of the morning, I made my way downstairs to find the two of them dancing in the living room. My heart swelled. There may be nothing in the world like the love a parent has for their child, but a grandmother’s love is pretty darned close.

Yanks fan in training

Not that he has a choice. As he was decked out in his gear, I made the mistake of joking with C that it would be ironic if he wound up rooting for the Sox later on in life. He didn’t think was so funny. The Yankees are serious business in this house. Speaking of, if you’re watching the game this Tuesday, look for us on tv. We’ll be in the second row right behind home plate!
