Baby clothes for dummies
I’ve come to the conclusion that the people that design baby clothes have never had children. Seriously, who the heck designed those sleepers that button (or better yet, zip) down one leg only? One leg slides right in, and you literally have to bend your baby’s leg all out of whack in order to shove the other leg in there. I’m not exaggerating, it’s a pain in the ass trying to wrestle a 4 month old in order to get a chubby little leg in those things. I really can’t picture any parent sitting around a design room looking at a prototype of this and gasping, saying “that’s genius!!”.
Then there’s those shirts that button in the back….wtf? My child can’t sit up yet, and is just now gaining control of his bobble head. Why in the world would you put a series of buttons or even snaps up the back of his shirt so I have to shove his head through an almost too small opening (this may be due to the size of L.A.’s melon, so I’m not going to comment on that part, because I’m not 100% sure it’s the fault of the manufacturer) and then balance his wiggly wobbly body against my arm as I try to button his shirt one handed?!!? I guess I could turn him over and lay him on his belly in order to button these things up, but again, this seems incredibly impractical.
Is there some sort of top secret super parent trick to this that I’m not aware of? I was at the library the other day, and I checked for a copy of Baby Clothes for Dummies. It hasn’t been published yet, so perhaps I’m the only tool with this issue.
We’re having a baby!!!
That’s what I said to C exactly one year ago today. Almost gotcha there, didn’t I? Yep, last year on this day I peed on 4 different pregnancy tests just to be sure that I was really, truly, 100% pregnant. Then I freaked the heck out. We had just bought our house, and I had envisioned late night parties on the back patio with loud music and plenty of frosty drinks for the upcoming summer. I mean, it wasn’t some huge surprise that I had gotten pregnant. We knew how babies were made, and we weren’t trying to avoid it, I was just in disbelief at how quickly it had happened.
We did have parties, and I had frosty drinks, just without the good stuff, and I usually crashed fairly early. And you know what, it was one of the best summers ever…. as we watched my belly swell and got used to the idea that our lives were about to be turned upside down in the greatest way ever.
This past year has absolutely flown, and I’m so looking forward to the upcoming summer. L.A. gets more and more fun every day. He found his voice over the weekend, and he’s been “talking” up a storm for the past few days. Each day it seems like he develops a little more of his own personality, and so far he seems to have a great little sense of humor and a happy, laid back disposition… as long as you aren’t a man with facial hair. On multiple occasions he has freaked the funk out when approached by a man with a mustache or beard. Interestingly, his father had the same phobia when he was a young child. Hmmm…..
Puppy Love
L.A. is completely in love with my MIL’s little old dog, Smokie. He’ll watch her walk around the room, and listens carefully for her little feet to click against the hardwood floors, and is generally just amused by all things Smokie. MIL and I get a huge kick out of putting the two of them on the floor together and watching as L.A.’s face slowly breaks into a huge grin and he lets out a big belly laugh as Smokie’s tail swishes by.
Smokie – on the other hand, couldn’t care less. She’ll walk by L.A. a hundred times as he trails her with his eyes hoping for some attention, and she won’t even glance in his direction. I think she might be a little jealous. Eh, that’s typical of us women though, huh?
Look at this face, are those eyes not the sweetest thing ever?
Ahhh the life of a dog….. Being loved by all and not having a care in the world.

Seeing through new eyes
As I was giving L.A. a bath last night, I realized how amused I’ve been watching him as he learns new things. For the past few weeks he’s been completely amazed at those things growing out of the end of his arms. I’ll leave him in his crib for a few minutes and come back to find him with his hands held up and clasped together with a look of confusion on his face, studying them intently. Last night, mid bath as he was splashing around he flung his arms up and then startled to see hands there in front of his face. As I watched his face, you could literally see the wheels turning as he furrowed his little eyebrows and pursed his lips trying to figure out what in the world was going on and why those hands were in his bath.
I love to sit there and watch his little brain work, though last night I wound up busting out laughing at the utter absurdity of the faces he was making. That of course completely broke his concentration and he looked up at me and squealed in delight before going back to splashing around. Just for ha ha’s I put a rubber ducky on his belly as he laid there in the water. If he thought the hands were confusing, you should have seen the look in his eyes with this yellow duck staring back at him.
8:00 pm: When I came home from work today, L.A. was once again intent on studying his little hands, so I had to try to capture it to share.
Once you go Mac
You never go back.
I can’t believe that I haven’t mentioned yet that C and I went on Saturday and picked up a new MacBook Pro. I loooove it! Our home PC is great for it’s original intended use, but as I delve deeper into photography and get ready to really pursue the business side of things, it wasn’t meeting my needs anymore, and we really needed a seperate computer to dedicate to my photography.
All weekend I was blogging from and glued to the new laptop, and so working today from my crummy HP at the office has been a drag. That’s all… just had to give a shout out to my Mac!
In other news, C’s big day at the stadium got rained on (literally) yesterday, so he’s on his way back down to the BX as we speak for another shot at opening day. The sky isn’t looking promising, but I’m crossing my fingers they don’t get rained out again tonight.
