Crunchy mama

Two summers ago I was sitting at a street cafe in West Hartford Center dining a la fresco and enjoying a nice glass of wine with my best friend when a woman got out of her car and pulled out a long piece of fabric and tied her baby to herself. As I sipped my wine and glanced down at my stilettos, I remember thinking to myself that she must be some kind of hippy earth mother.

Flash to this weekend as C and I are sitting pool side at our neighbor’s house planning our upcoming trip to Martha’s Vineyard and trying to figure out the logistics of transportation and getting the the boy around. We have a baby Bjorn, and both L.A. and I hate the thing. We also have a backpack style carrier that is very useful, but rather bulky. Our neighbor’s eyes lit up and she said “oh, I have a sling you should try” and ran to her car to go get it. Skeptical, I slipped it over my shoulder and stuck L.A. in there. He loved it, and quite frankly, I did too.

Yesterday we headed back to West Hartford Center and stopped into the Papaya Patch where the ladies were incredibly helpful in guiding me towards choosing the right sling for L.A. and I. We wound up choosing a Sakura Bloom sling, and it’s completely comfortable and gorgeous. As we walked through the store, I wandered over to the cloth diapers and cooed at their cuteness. For a minute there, I actually had visions of ditching the disposables. Then C snapped me back to reality. A true earth mother, I’m not… but I do love wearing my baby.

Contest winner!!

Meet Nathan. His mom won my blog contest a few weeks ago, and we met this morning for their free mini session. He was a cutie, though a little unsure of the crazy woman wielding the camera… I can’t blame him there!

Sleeping in

Or not. We’ve been trying to have L.A. understand that on Saturdays and Sundays it’s okay to not get up at the butt crack of dawn. To help emphasize this, I’ve been bringing him into our bed so he can snuggle and we can try to steal a few extra minutes of shut eye. As evidenced below, it’s not going so well.

52 week hiatus

I’ve been slacking on the 52 week pictures. I got a new camera and I don’t have a remote for it just yet, so it makes it much harder. I’ll try to see what I can do this weekend.

In the meantime, I’ve been working on some changes. I’m pretty sure I’m going to wind up recombining the Little Acosta blog and the photography blog. Since the website is up and running, I’ve been using the other blog primarily for previews only, and who doesn’t like to see pictures of cute kids and pregnant bellies even if you don’t know them?

After much thought, I realize that I simply don’t have the time to upkeep 2 blogs to the extent that I’d like. Plus, really… my life and my family are such a huge influence on my business, and in some ways they blend together. I wouldn’t be successful in my business if I didn’t have such an amazing husband, and I’m not sure I’d be any good as a photographer if I didn’t have L.A. as my sole source of inspiration.

That being said, in the next few weeks I’ll be doing an overhaul and most likely redirecting this blog to another url. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure no one gets lost in the transition!

Cora

Cora has a beautiful smile and it was an honor to meet with her and her husband Sean this week. Sean has his own photography business, and it’s always most intimidating to shoot in the presence of one of your own. That being said, Cora and Sean welcomed me into their home like I was an old friend, and I had a blast with them!

In the pool of life..

This discussion was brought up the other day on a forum I belong to. The beginning of the movie Superstar describes two people in life – those who dip their toes in the pool and slowly get in and those who taking a running leap and plunge.

So do you dip or take the plunge?
Personally, I’m a canonballer. It’s come to my attention of late that though I approach all things with gusto and without fear, I need to pay more attention to who I’m splashing in the process of my canonball.
I’m curious though, readers out there… which are you? Go ahead and leave a comment, don’t be shy!

More Ella

Since I’ve already shared with Mom and Dad, I thought I’d post a few of my absolute favorites from this session. Though I’d be lying if I said they weren’t all close to being my favorites.

Note to self

You are not 18 anymore. Partying for three days straight, while extremely fun, does not bode well for an 8 a.m. meeting on Monday. :::yawn::: It was worth it though, we had a great weekend and got to spend time with good friends. I also had a great family portrait session on Saturday that was tons of fun.

In the future though, I think we may have to space out our weekend events if I’m expected to perform my job. I’m off to blunder my way through a meeting that is actually rather important…. wish me luck!
