Ella

Quite often when I meet new families, I’m lucky enough to have a connection with them immediately. Almost as if I’ve known them forever, and yesterday’s session was no different. These two parents have the sweetest wedding story, and they love their daughter to pieces. How could you not, she’s incredibly sweet herself!

Missing my boys

A new mom never wants to leave her child, but I got called last minute for work to fly down to North Carolina yesterday and I had to spend the night. I agonized over leaving C and L.A. (not that they aren’t perfectly capable of getting along without me). Turns out it was way harder on me than either of them. Way to make a chick feel loved.

In any event, I’m home now and I think I’ve hugged them both about a million times. I can’t believe how big my little guy is getting… I snapped this picture tonight after his bath.

Five Little Cookies

I was one of “those” people who regularly gave our nieces and nephews gifts that talked, sang, required batteries and generally made a ruckus. I never thought twice about the sideways glance I’d receive from the parent as their child happily unwrapped the gift. In fact, quite often I’d shrug my shoulders and offer a sheepish smile and say “what?? I thought s/he’d love it!”

More than once my response was met with a knowing look and a mumble of “you just wait”. Well, my time has arrived.

One of our good friends gave L.A. this toy that is an updated version of the classic shape container to teach babies colors, shapes and basic motor skills. Every morning while C and I are getting ready, he sits on the floor in his room and stares at it up on his shelf until you take it down, turn it on and let him play with it. It is without question his favorite toy.

The only problem is that the song it plays is a total earworm, and I’ve been walking around my office singing it all morning. I’m fairly certain my coworkers are ready to kill me.

5 little cookies in a cookie jar,
5 little cookies
yeeeeees they are
You can take them out,
You can put them back
5 little cookies make a YUMMY snack!

I’m that mom, and karma has officially bitten me right where the sun don’t shine.

Week 13

This 52 week challenge is proving to be just that, challenging! I’m trying my best to keep it up though. I would really love to be able to assemble a book at the end that chronicles most of L.A.’s first year.

He’s trying to kill me

My son – in his oh so cute phase of exploration – is going to give me a damned heart attack. This morning as I was waking up I heard him playing in his crib (okay, he was kind of grunting and complaining) over the monitor so I threw off the covers and peeled myself out of bed and slowly walked towards his room with my eyes half closed.

As I got to his doorway I could see that he had flipped himself over onto his belly in his crib and he was laying face down with his nose smooshed into the mattress. I stood there for a second waiting for him to lift his head up at the sound of my feet, and after a few seconds he didn’t move. At all. My heart sank into my stomach and I flew across his room to grab his shoulders and pull him up.

As soon as my hands made the connection with his body, he lifted his head up, gave me a big gummy smile and giggled. “Gotcha, Mom”. The little punk…
