Kasey and Christian | CT Wedding Photographer

Kasey and I have been chatting for months now about her October wedding at The Barns at Wesleyan Hills.  Since her wedding is here in Connecticut, but she and her fiance live in Boston, we thought it would be a great idea to do their session in the city they love so much.  Bonus points for the fact that this session was an excuse for C and I to spend a night alone – away from the kiddos.

We met early in the morning, and from the moment we walked into their home and were greated with hugs, like old friends – I knew it would be a good day.  So we set off to explore the city together.  Kasey and Christian – We had such a blast with you – can’t wait for your wedding!!

Asher | CT Newborn Photographer

This little family is so near and dear to my heart.  You see, back when I got a wild hair that I wanted to become a photographer, I had exhausted my own family and circle of friends with practicing on them when one day, at work I saw a beautiful pregnant woman.  I didn’t know her, and there was a good chance she would think I was crazy when I approached her about taking her maternity portraits, but she didn’t.  She was so sweet and so kind and so that’s how I came to know Asher’s mom back when she was pregnant with his older brother.  We kept in touch and chatted about raising our boys, and when she came to my desk to tell me that she was pregnant again, tears of happiness sprung to my eyes.  (I’m a total sap – if you haven’t already gathered).

We planned out Asher’s newborn session, but a quick stay in the NICU pushed our session back, and I finally met him on Friday at 3 weeks old.  Usually, after 10 days babies tend to catch on to my antics of trying to soothe them to sleep, but Asher was a dream.

and the sweet big brother that helped launch my business way back when he was in his Mama’s belly.

Garrett | CT Newborn Photographer

At six days old, such a sweet little peanut.  I never tire of newborns.  A huge thanks to Alyse for helping me out on this shoot!

These mom and baby shots are quickly becoming my favorite part of the session.  There is just something so pure and beautiful about watching a new mom with her brand new baby.

A mother and her boy(s) | CT Maternity Photographer

As Danielle and I chatted away about the arrival of her twin boys – which at nearly 37 weeks could literally happen any day now, she glanced over to her four year old son and said “I just realized that I’ll never get this moment back, it will never be the same again”.  Tears sprung to my eyes, and I nodded.  This is why I do what I do.  This is why I love this job.  I know exactly how she feels, I’ve lived it, and I know how important those last few weeks as a family of three are.  Before your lives are turned upside down by a baby (or two in this case!), before you meet the new little people you’re going to fall in love with.  It’s a time of anticipation, fear, wistfulness, hope, and most of all – love.

How to choose a photographer

The weather is warming up, the grass is getting greener, and many of you are starting to think about having portraits taken.  Maybe you’re planning your wedding or want pictures of your children, your families, or your brand new babies.  Your family – your life – will only look like this for just this moment, and custom photography is an investment.  So while you’re out there looking around at different photographers, it makes sense to have an idea of what you’re looking for.   My friend Amy of Amy Ro Photography spent a long time writing out an awesome post about it, so go check it out.

If you have any questions shoot me an email, but I think she did an amazing job of explaining it all!

True Story

The other day as I was sitting on the couch giving P2 a bottle, he fell asleep in my arms.  For a few minutes, I held him there and watched him as he softly breathed in and out, staring down at his sweet face and marveling at his mile long lashes.  I should have put him upstairs in his crib, I had a ton of things to do.  I just wanted to hold him for a bit though, and soak it in.  At 10 months old, I know the days of him sleeping in my arms are numbered and before I know it he’ll be off and running.

As I sat there lost in my own thoughts, L.A. came barreling into the room and screamed at the top of his lungs – “Moooooooommy!!!! I peeeeeeed” – and proceeded to whip his diaper (and pants) off just as he did in fact run into the kitchen and pee.  All.over.the.floor.

So much for the sentimental moments of motherhood.  This one is going to give us a run for our money.

Amelia Rose | CT Newborn Photographer

As sweet as her name.  I first met this family back in the summer of 2008 when I photographed her older brother who was just learning to walk, and now I’ve been able to share in the joy of their new daughter.  I’ve said it before, but I stinking love my job.
